Here we go! 3rd 40th Deluxe set. The Ramones were busy in 1977, with their 3rd album ‘Rocket To Russia’ released November that year. And voila: a 40th Anniversary Deluxe version of the album as the next in our Ramones series. Same hard bound book packaging, with 1LP and 3 CDs, and a booklet with new liner notes essays and photos. In terms of audio content, original Ramones’ engineer/mixer Ed Stasium has done a new “Tracking Mix” (basically stripped-back, raw and live version of the album, showing the power of Queens’ finest). This is paired with another remastered version of the original stereo mix. Disc 2 will have outtakes, rough mixes and rare tracks, including an early demo version of ‘Needles & Pins’ (with Tommy on drums), the b-side single mix of ‘Babysitter’, alternate versions of ‘It’s a Long Way Back to Germany’ (with Dee Dee on vocals), an original radio promo, plus a selection of rough mixes from the sessions at Media Sound, and the Power Station. In addition there will be an unreleased live show – recorded in Glasgow on multitrack - one of the concerts leading up to the ‘It’s Alive’ set (released on LP), which Ed Stasium will mix for this release. Liner notes and photos still to be 100% confirmed, but there will be a piece from Sire Records founder Seymour Stein, plus others. The deluxe box is, again, limited edition and individually numbered. Also echoing the Ramones’ 40th Anniversary editions, the slate of releases will include a 1CD in slipcase with stereo remaster. A new stand-alone vinyl version of the ‘Rocket to Russia’ LP, using the 2017 remastered stereo audio is scheduled to come in early 2018 (along with ‘Leave Home’ & ‘Ramones’). A RSD-piece to follow, of the live show from disc 3. ‘Rocket to Russia’ originally charted on release, at #49 in the Billboard albums, and was included in Rolling Stone’s ‘500 Greatest Albums of all Time’. After the left turn with the artwork on ‘Leave Home’, this album returned to Ramones’ tradition, with the cover again featuring a B&W band photo in front of a wall (this time taken by Danny Fields), and the album art also included drawings by Punk Magazine’s John Holmstrom. Last, but not least, ‘Rocket to Russia’ was also the final album featuring the classic Ramones’ line-up with Tommy on drums.
