James Taylor was the archetypal singer/songwriter of the Seventies. His songs contained understated tenor vocal melodies backed by intricate acoustic guitar parts that drew on folk and jazz influences. His warm, personable, and precisely phrased vocals resulted in his unique talent being honoured in both the Rock and Roll & Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Released in 1976 Greatest Hits was Taylor’s best-selling album of his career, selling over 11 million copies certifying it as a platinum album eleven times over, and a diamond album once over. When originally released, it contained newly recorded versions of "Carolina in My Mind", “Something in the Way She Moves" and a previously unavailable live version of "Steamroller".
