Liam Gallagher’s debut solo album ‘As You Were’ was a critical and commercial smash. It debuted at #1, out-selling the rest of the Top 10 in the process, and was soon certified Platinum. Liam was back where he belonged, selling out huge outdoor shows and earning major awards from Q, NME and GQ.

Never one to rest on his laurels, Liam is now back and once again smashing it with his new single ‘Shockwave’ which will be released on June 7th. It’s the first taster of his forthcoming second album ‘Why Me? Why Not.’

‘Shockwave’ erupts into life with a beast of a riff which channels The Who and T. Rex, before Liam bursts in on the incessant hook with typical venom and punch. “You sold me right down the river, you had to hold me back,” he sings, “you could’ve looked for the sunshine, but you had to paint the whole thing black.” You’ll be the singing the chorus for the rest of the year: “It’s coming round like a shockwave!”

“I’m buzzing,” says Liam. “Buzzing to be alive, buzzing to be making tunes, raring to go. It’s nice to be back with some new music because it means I can get out there, play some gigs and give some people some stick because that is what I do. Let’s face it, it’s boring without me.”

Liam wrote ‘Shockwave’ with two of the key collaborators behind the all-conquering ‘As You Were’ album: Andrew Wyatt, who won the Academy Award for Best Original Song as co-writer of ‘Shallow’ from the film ‘A Star Is Born’, and the multiple Grammy-winner Greg Kurstin who also produced the track. It was recorded in Los Angeles and at RAK Studios in London.

‘Shockwave’ heralds the start of a hectic summer for Liam. Next Wednesday he’ll play an underplay show at Hackney Round Chapel – surely the most intimate London venue he’s played since Oasis first hit the capital – before the ‘As It Was’ documentary premieres at Alexandra Palace Theatre the following evening. He’s then set to play a sold-out Eden Sessions show on June 26th and Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage on June 29th.

More details regarding ‘Why Me? Why Not.’ will be revealed imminently. “It’s a better record than As You Were,” promises Liam. “Which is saying something, as that was epic, wasn’t it?”
